HAMMONTON—Gary Deanley scored twice and the Hammonton Hawks dominated on both sides of the ball, defeating Somers Point 33-7 in an exhibition game at Hammonton Lake Park last weekend.
Deanley gave the Hawks a 6-0 lead early in the game when he capped Hammonton’s opening 11-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Dylan Mento’s interception and 53-yard return set up the Hawks’ next touchdown, a 5-yard run by Jon Triboletti.
Leading 12-0, Hammonton stretched its lead after recovering an onside kick, and went ahead 19-0 after Ricardo Quirindongo scored on an 11-yard run and Triboletti connected with Mento on the conversion pass.
Deanley added a 12-yard touchdown run, and Quirindongo added the point after to give the Hawks a 26-0 lead. Hammonton’s final points came just before halftime when Rocco Ordille broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown run. Triboletti and Mento connected for the extra point and a 33-0 lead. Somers Point added a late touchdown to make the final score 33-7.
Hammonton opens the regular season on September 11 at home against Egg Harbor Township at 7 p.m.
